About Atlas Invest We operate in a large, highly fragmented market that has historically relied on manual processes, disconnected systems, and local lending relationships. Atlas combines deep real estate credit expertise with technology to create a faster, more consistent, and highly scalable lending platform. Our current focus is mid-market real estate bridge lending, with a particular emphasis on multifamily, residential, and mixed-use assets. We are building toward a much larger vision: an institutional-grade platform capable of originating, underwriting, managing, and scaling real estate credit across markets, asset classes, and lending products. We are looking for a VP, Risk & Underwriting to lead that effort.

About the Role The VP, Risk & Underwriting will own Atlas's credit and underwriting function and play a central role in building the risk infrastructure required to scale the company. Reporting directly to the CEO, this person will lead our underwriting team and own the full credit lifecycle, from initial deal screening and underwriting through investment committee, loan processing, closing, and ongoing portfolio monitoring. This is not a traditional bank underwriting role. We are looking for someone who combines deep real estate credit judgment with a builder mentality. You will make key credit decisions while building the processes, systems, policies, and team that allow Atlas to operate consistently and at scale. Over time, you will also help expand Atlas beyond its current mid-market bridge lending strategy into additional asset classes, lending products, and segments of the real estate credit market.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor our analyst and underwriting team to uphold high-quality deal assessments and minimize errors
• Own underwriting standards, credit policies, investment committees, and risk management
• Build institutional-grade processes that allow us to increase volume while maintaining disciplined credit standards
• Partner closely with Product and R&D to automate underwriting, loan processing, monitoring, and other credit workflows
• Remain hands-on with complex transactions and key credit decisions
• Provide insight on market trends and borrower behavior to help guide broader investment strategy and pricing models

Requirements:

• 10+ years of real estate credit and underwriting experience
• 5+ years specifically underwriting mid-market bridge loans, including multifamily, mixed-use, single-family, and other property types
• Deep expertise across underwriting, structuring, due diligence, closing, and portfolio risk management
• Proven experience leading underwriting or credit teams
• A builder mentality and track record of creating or improving credit processes, rather than simply operating within established ones
• Comfortable operating with the speed, ownership, and ambiguity of a high-growth startup
